20 years ago - The process Frederick planners used to approve a compromise plan for a large development northwest of the city was proper, city officials said, despite a suit filed Tuesday alleging the decision was flawed. “What was done out there by the planning commission was reasonable,” said Mayor Ronald Young.
A partnership of three major Japanese firms has purchased 25 percent of the production capability and assets of Eastalco Aluminum Co. The action, finalized Dec. 26, included a purchase of the 25 percent capability and assets at Eastalco’s plant near Buckeystown and the Intalco Aluminum plant in Ferndale, Wash., for $210 million.
50 years ago - Two 13-year-old colored youths who admitted they were involved in the fourth attempted purse-snatching case in Frederick in less than 30 days were committed to juvenile detention quarters in the county jail pending Juvenile Court action after a preliminary hearing before Mrs. William C. Roderick, the county probation officer, this morning.
Serious injuries were miraculously averted Saturday afternoon when two vehicles collided in Yellow Springs and both overturned.
100 years ago - One of the largest clay target shootings ever held in Frederick county took place Saturday at Feagaville, there being 28 entries. The highest average was made by Cy. Malone with Dr. Stultz, of Woodsboro, and John W. Pool, of Braddock, a close second.
A meeting of the citizens of Walkersville has been called for Thursday night, in Stauffer’s Hall, when preliminary arrangements will be discussed looking to the formation of a water company for the furnishing of water to the town and for better fire protection.
